Death had been a constant companion; standing ominously beside him for so long, he’d come to accept that calmly sinister presence.

And down the years, he’d often refused to take the hand Death offered.

He’d crawled across sands for nine days to outrun the insistent patient figure of mortality.

Throughout four months of suffering and torture, he’d shouted his defiance against insidiously encouraging whispers to give up and slip away into eternity.

He had fought. Always. Because he was a stubborn son-of-a-bitch.

And Death would never take him without a fight.

So, instead, in vengeful malice, he took his son.
