Transcription of Amanda Tapping Interview from the MGM UK Stargate SG-1 DVD site. This interview was part of the MGM UK site exclusive downloads area, for those fans who have bought the Region 2 DVDs. I don't know if this interview will be on a Season 8 DVD or not. We'll have to wait and hear from Region 2 DVD Season 8 purchasers. (This interview was filmed on the last day of filming for Season Eight. The interview is conducted in the SGC Gateroom, with Amanda Tapping wearing the blue BDUs (the blue BDU shirt fully buttoned down the front), and Amanda filmed from mid-torso up. Amanda sounds a little congested…for whatever reason I don't know. The interview length is 4 minutes, 4 seconds. Amanda is the only one on camera. Title cards show the topics, and then we see Amanda respond.)
AMANDA TAPPING…ON THE SUCCESS OVERSEAS: I think we're…bigger overseas, because we're a bit more mainstream overseas. I think now only in the last couple of years since we've been on SciFi have we gained a larger audience. And we've actually broken out of the genre a bit more in the States. But for the first six years of our show, really, people were like, "Oh, that's a SciFi show. We don't watch that." But now people are actually admitting to watching it.
AMANDA TAPPING…ON BEING RECOGIZED ON THE STREETS: Just now more people come up and say something. Which is actually really sweet. It's very pleasant. And in the States, more people point at me than ever before. And I'm pretty sure it's because I'm on Stargate (chuckles.) I'm h-o-p-i-n-g it's because I'm on Stargate (laughs). AMANDA TAPPING…ON THE SUCCESS OF THE SHOW: Especially on SciFi now, we're doing better now than we've ever done. Our first runs are getting a couple of million people plus. And our reruns are actually getting huge numbers. But I think because we're also syndicated, as well, even our reruns in syndication are doing better than they've ever done.
AMANDA TAPPING…ON HAVING FUN ON THE SET: Some of our biggest laughs came from watching Don Davis…struggle sometimes with his lines, and slowly turn red and red and red (raises her right hand to her chin, and then raises her hand up alongside her face, and to the back of her head), until his whole crown glowed. I mean, that would just crack us up, because Don is such a good sport about it. Moments where we're running, and bombs are going off -- and we're running through the woods with these big explosions and firebombs, and we all turn to each other and go, "Oh, my God, we're getting PAID to do this!"
AMANDA TAPPING…ON HER SCREEN CHARACTER: Well, so much has happened in this season that has changed her -- indelibly changed her. Major stuff has gone on. I'd like to see her deal with that, you know. I don't know when this is going to air, so I can't really say *what's* happened to her, but some major things have happened. She's made some very solid decisions in her life, and she's lost some very important people in her life. And I'd like to she how that affects her.
AMANDA TAPPING…ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SAMANTHA AND JACK: It's wonderful to have this great chemistry and this boiling pot of emotions between the two of them…but, enough already! They're grown adults, you know what I mean? Enough. Figure it out. Either get it on or walk away (chuckles). Oy! It's like being in high school when the two of them are together (chuckles). So I would like some resolution to that, and I think we've sort of broached that at the end of this season. If this is the end of Stargate, the fans will not be disappointed. If it's not the end, we still have somewhere we can go.
AMANDA TAPPING…ON TEAL'C GROWING HAIR: I think he looks dead sexy, but that's because I'm Christopher Judge's friend. And I think he looks fantastic with hair. When I found out that they were going to let him keep it as Teal'c, I was really surprised. But Chris has a great explanation for it, and it's all part of the passage of time and the evolution of our characters and that he is finally comfortable enough on Earth, living in this time, and living in this environment, to try to blend…to not be Mr. Alien Guy
AMANDA TAPPING…ON THE FUTURE OF THE SHOW: You've actually caught us at a very interesting…crossroads, because we're wrapping season eight today, last day done (sniffs). (Uses accent…sounds like Cockney to me…of course, I'm from the US, so what do I know about UK accents?) "I've wrapped my last scene, I shall never be on Stargate again, maybe." (Returns to usual speaking voice.) And we don't know whether we're coming back. And it was really bizarre to say goodbye to the crew. Even if we don't come back as a series, I think that it's not the end of SG1. I think something will happen. And maybe that's just my own hope. If we don't come back doing 20 or 22 episodes next year, we'll do something.
